Birdman of Alcatraz

True-life drama about a man who, while serving a life sentence in Alcatraz, develops an interest in birds and goes on to become an expert ornithologist. Originally, the inmate is condemned to death, but his sentence is commuted after his mother makes an emotional plea at the White House. The uncompromising prisoner's life changes when a sick bird flies into his cell and he lovingly nurses it back to health.
