Robert Helpmann

Australian actor Robert Helpmann captivated audiences with his incredible performances on the big screen. Helpmann kickstarted his acting career in various films such as "Tales of Hoffmann" (1951) featuring Moira Shearer, "The Iron Petticoat" (1956) and the dramatic period piece "55 Days at Peking" (1963) with Charlton Heston. He also appeared in the dramatic adaptation "The Quiller Memorandum" (1966) with George Segal. He continued to work steadily in film throughout the sixties and the seventies, appearing in "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" (1968), the Fiona Fullerton fantasy "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" (1972) and "Don Quixote" (1973). He also appeared in "The Mango Tree" (1977). Toward the end of his career, he tackled roles in "Patrick" (1978) and the Diane Franklin fantastical comedy "Second Time Lucky" (1984). Helpmann was most recently credited in "The Red Shoes" (1993). Additionally, he appeared on the television special "The Margot Fonteyn Story" (PBS, 1989-1990). Helpmann passed away in September 1986 at the age of 77.
