Armenia is landlocked, but possesses an inland sea of its own, the gigantic mountain lake of Sevan. At an altitude of 1,900 metres and surrounded by a national park, it is the largest freshwater reservoir in the Caucasus region.
Situated 400 kilometres south of the capital Yerevan, Arevik National Park covers an area of more than 300 square kilometres. This immense protected area, home to bears and wolves, is the largest in the country, extending up to the border with Iran.
