Beyond the Reach

Jean-Baptiste Léonetti's minimalist thriller Beyond the Reach stars Michael Douglas as Madec, a high-rolling corporate shark who hires a young tracker named Ben (Jeremy Irvine) to go into the Mojave Desert with him in order to shoot rare game. Early in their hunt, Madec accidentally shoots a man. Not wanting to spend time in jail, he concocts a plan to pin the man's death on Ben. This leads to a gruelling cat-and-mouse chase through harsh conditions. Beyond the Reach, a rabid thriller based on Robb White's 1972 crime novel Deathwatch, puts up Michael Douglas as coyote and Jeremy Irvine as the vulnerable pup.
