Me and Orson Welles
Based on a true story and set in the art deco glory of 1930s New York City, Me and Orson Welles is a celebration of love, theatre and the passions that inspire greatness. 17-year-old student Richard Samuels (Zac Efron, Hairspray, High School Musical) spends his days dreaming of the bright lights of Broadway. When he bumps into members of the Mercury Theatre company, a new acting troupe headed by then-unknown 22-year-old Orson Welles (newcomer Christian McKay in an extraordinary, award-wining performance), he lucks his way into a small role in Welles' visionary staging of Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar'. Richard is taught the ropes by a beautiful, ambitious production assistant, Sonja (Romeo + Juliet's Claire Danes), and he quickly falls head over heels in love. However, the charismatic-but-sometimes-cruel Orson Welles won't have anyone stand in the way of his astonishing artistic vision. The stage is set for an opening night will change everyone's lives, and help create one of the 20th century's artistic giants. Based on real events, Me and Orson Welles is a dramatic, romantic coming-of-age tale from award-winning director Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, School of Rock, Before Sunrise).
