Polly of the Circus

Academy Award winner Clark Gable stars with Marion Davies in this story of a very proper minister who falls in love with a woman his congregation will never accept--the daring and alluring Polly of the Circus. When high-flying trapeze artist Polly (Davies) falls during a performance, she is taken to the home of the Reverend John Hartley (Gable) to recuperate. Love grows between these two opposites, and they secretly wed. But when Hartley's congregation learns of their marriage, its small-minded members force him out of his church and his job as their minister. Now, with her husband unable to find work because of her, Polly returns to the life and work she knows: daring death upon the high trapeze. Based on the 1917 film and the play by Margaret Mayo.
