Professor Lawrence Wetherhold (Dennis Quaid, Vantage Point) is a brilliant intellectual giant - but when it comes to solving the conundrums of love and family, he is downright flummoxed. His son (Ashton Holmes, A History of Violence) won't confide in him, his teenage daughter (Elliot Page, Juno) is an acid-tongued overachiever, and his brother (Thomas Haden Church, Sideways) has perfected the art of freeloading. A widower who can't seem to find passion in anything anymore, Lawrence is sleepwalking through life until he falls for his former student Janet (Sarah Jessica Parker, Sex and the City).
