Bernie Lootz is a losing gambler who owes the Shangri-La casino in Las Vegas $100,000. To pay off his debt, he's used as a `cooler', someone who sits next to winners and uses his bad luck to stop them. He's almost debt-free when he falls for cocktail waitress Natalie and wants out, but casino owner and mobster Shelly Kaplow has other ideas.
