Joey Medina

Comic and actor Joey Medina has made a name for himself in Latino comedy circles through his stand-up specials, acting and directing. Of Puerto Rican descent, Medina was born in the Bronx, New York, and trained as a boxer throughout his teens. After winning a State Championship as a professional boxer, Medina changed course and began to focus instead on his comedy. Alongside fellow comics George Lopez, Cheech Marin, Alex Reymundo, and Paul Rodriguez, Medina was one of "The Original Latin Kings of Comedy." This stand-up film became the best selling Latino comedy DVD ever produced. Medina's directorial debut, "El Matador," a film he also wrote and acted in, follows a modern matador, descended from a long line of bullfighters, who must fend off his family's evil nemesis. The film picked up Best Film, Best Director and Best Acting awards at the East Los Angeles Chicano Film Festival. On Sí TV, Medina wrote, directed, produced, and hosted "Circumsized Cinema," a sort of Latino "What's Up, Tiger Lilly?" in which old, kitschy Mexican films were edited down to half-hour segments with new, comedic dialogue. Medina has also appeared in the horror comedy "Zombie Strippers!," alongside Jenna Jameson and Robert Englund, about a zombie epidemic that infects a star dancer at a strip club in the not-so-distant future.
