Josie Totah
Josie Totah is a multi-talented actress, writer, producer, and comedian who has already worked alongside some of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood. Totah can currently be seen as the co-lead in AppleTV+’s period-drama series, THE BUCANEERS, based on an unfinished book by Pulitzer Prize–winning novelist Edith Wharton. Most recently, she was seen starring in and producing NBCU’s Peacock reboot SAVED BY THE BELL in which she played Lexi, a sharp-tongued cheerleader, and the most popular girl at Bayside High. Both Totah and the show received strong reviews and fan support, which ultimately earned Totah a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the 2022 Critics Choice Awards. The program also won Best Comedy Series at the 2022 GLAAD Awards. In 2022, Totah appeared in the romantic-comedy podcast series, BONE, MARRY, BURY, which was nominated for best fiction podcast at The Ambies 2023. The series was created, written, directed and exec produced by Becca Freeman and Rachael King and also stars Sarah Hyland, Harvey Guillen, Tommy Martinez and Adam Pally. Totah’s other recent credits include: the hit Netflix animated series BIG MOUTH, Netflix’s Amy Poehler directed feature MOXIE and the NBC sitcom MR. MAYOR. She began her career at the age of ten performing at the Hollywood Improv before moving on to recurring roles on the Disney Channel series JESSIE and the last season of Ryan Murphy’s hit FOX television show GLEE as ‘Myron Muskovitz.’ Totah then went on to capture audiences’ hearts with her unforgettable performance in the 2016 hit film OTHER PEOPLE. The film, written and directed by Chris Kelly, premiered at the Sundance film festival, and starred Molly Shannon, Jesse Plemons and Bradley Whitford. Totah then went on to star in the Charlie Grandy and Mindy Kaling hit NBC comedy series CHAMPIONS alongside Anders Holm and Fortune Feimster. It was just after the show concluded that Totah bravely came out as a transgender female in a self-penned article for TIME Magazine. She has been honored and awarded by the Human Rights Campaign multiple times for her authenticity and presence as a role model to aspiring young artists around the world. Totah has appeared as a guest on The View, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Turning the Tables with Robin Roberts, and The Kelly Clarkson Show in addition to being featured in magazines such as Vanity Fair, ELLE and Teen Vogue. Totah is a graduate of Chapman University and currently resides in Los Angeles.
