Petar, a troubled Security Intelligence Agency operative, arrives in a village in Eastern Serbia as a negotiator when Mitar, a normally peaceful man, begins to kill off his neighbours at random.
Mitar ends up in a coma; police inspectors Blagojevic and Tomic invite well-known psychologist Natasa as a judicial witness as they take over the case; in 1976, sports commentator Mica Djuric's story begins.
Monk Tihon tries to convince Natasa that Ida is in danger; Mitar wakes up from the coma; Peter investigates on his own; in the 1970s, Mica visits his home village.
Petar returns to the village where Mitar committed the massacre and inquires about local customs, learning about a mysterious ceremony: the black wedding.
Petar meets local witch Mikula and witnesses the black wedding ceremony in the village; still sceptical, Natasa agrees to visit the witch; Natasa faces secrets from her past.
Following her visit with Mikula, Natasa begins believing Tihon's version of the story. Blagojevic and Tomic organise Mitar's transfer from hospital to the prison; in the '70s, Mica goes on a trip.
