The Skyros Horses of Greece can be found not only in its hills and plains, but also in its famous monuments such as the Parthenon; for thousands of years, it stands alongside great heroes in battle and still survives as a national Greek treasure.

The Tarpan roamed in wild herds across Europe for millennia, yet the breed became extinct in the 19th century; the work of international teams brings a small herd of genetically bred, modern Tarpan to the remote mountains of Eastern Europe.
