Saddam was the deputy of the Iraqi president, when his faction of the ruling Baath Party opposes the president's plan for a union with neighbour Syria, Saddam is able to seize power.
Though Iraq is on the brink of bankruptcy, Baghdad is jubilant in victory after the war with Iran. Uday celebrates in a nightclub by getting drunk and firing a gun into the crowd.
Iraq is crippled by United Nations sanctions and Saddam believes Iraq is being ostracized. Weapons, chemicals and documents are buried or concealed.
Saddam instructs his family to flee, leaving himself, Uday, Qusay and his grandson to remain. The Americans discover the location of Uday and Qusay and Saddam learns of the high price on his head.
