Poor Man's Orange continues the ever-changing story of The Darcys in the 1950s. The narrow-gutted, dirty old house is now home to Mumma, Dad Hughie, Dolour and Roie who lives in one of the upstairs rooms with her husband, Charlie Rothe (Shane Connor, House Husbands) and their little girl, Moira (Emily Nicol, A Country Practice), who calls herself Motty.

It is the early '50s and the Darcy family continues their struggle to build a better life despite the forces lined up against them. Dolour fights for the strength to keep this family together in this hard bitten Irish-emigrate community of Surry Hills, but as bad times, illness, and romantic discord make their presence known, the Darcy's find that what they need most to survive is one another.
