Jake and Malachy Doyle are private investigators in St John's, Newfoundland. When a boyhood friend of Jake's is put in jail for manslaughter of a drug dealer, the Doyles take the case to find out who really killed the man, who had many enemies. Meanwhile, in his personal life, Jake has to deal with his impending divorce from his beautiful wife while also trying to get on the good side of the sexy new Police Constable.
A young woman hires the Doyles to find her biological father, but it turns out that she's not who she claims to be. The case turns into a murder investigation when the mysterious woman turns up dead in the trunk of a car. Jake has trouble staying away from Nikki, even though he has a court order to keep his distance.
A woman from Mal's past wants him to look in to a fire at one of her bars; a girl died but the police ruled it accidental, although the bar owner believes otherwise. Jake has woman troubles of his own; he's attracted to Leslie, but can't stay away from Nikki.
An old case comes back to haunt Mal when a man hires the Doyles to find the person who killed his wife; a crime that the man himself was wrongfully convicted of years ago. At home, Tinny makes a bold move to assert her independence, while Jake tries to find out if he's about to become a daddy.
A woman suspects her husband is cheating on her, and hires the Doyles to find out the truth. The investigation leads them to an international rum running operation, and a man that the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has been looking for for years.
Jake's high school flame rolls back into town; she's recently, very recently, married and already starting to doubt her new husband's commitment. When he mysteriously dies, Jake can't help but get involved in the case, even though he knows it will spell trouble.
