Road Warriors

Uncovering the gritty reality of soldiers who face unforgiving terrain and Taliban attacks to supply British bases all over Helmand Province, Afghanistan. This week 3 trucks are separated from the convoy when they take a wrong turn in the Taliban stronghold of Nad-e-Ali. One of the trucks ends up in a canal, in the middle of the night yards from the sleeping Taliban. When the Taliban realise that a truck, complete with sensitive classified information is on their doorstep a vicious fire fight ensues.

Road Warriors we follow Lance Corporal Lisa West and her fiancé Lance Corporal Karl Cracknell as they embark on an incredibly dangerous supply convoy into an Afghan area known as IED alley, due to the amount of Taliban roadside bombs. For Lisa she has the extra worry of knowing her fiancé is at the front of the convoy and in added danger. It’s not long before the first IED is found and made safe but later another blows up the truck in front of Lisa’s vehicle.

Road Warriors not only have to deliver their supplies but have to dismantle a frontline operating base (FOB Gibraltar). The roads are so dangerous and threat is so high they have to travel at night. Soon they find out they’re being tracked by a suicide bomber and have to outwit him if they’re going to be able to safely reach their destination. Then, they have to diffuse roadside bombs, fight off the Taliban, rescue stranded trucks and that’s all before they’ve even get to their destination and offload their supplies to the British frontline troops in Afghanistan.

The last in the series that follows the men and women of the Royal Logistic Corps - known as the Road Warriors. This week the Road Warriors have to drive a 160 mile round trip with 26 truckloads of fuel and water to a frontline British Army Base. They’ll face not just bombs and bullets but because they’ll be travelling across the western desert they have the added nightmare of sand storms and of trucks becoming bogged in the deep, ever shifting sands. After recovering one truck- one of the Road Warriors who is trying to catch up with the rest of convoy misses a buried bomb by inches.
