An oyster maid in Victorian England is attracted to another woman, who performs as a male impersonator. Nan decides to follow Kitty to London.

Nan is lost and distraught while wandering the London streets alone, after Kitty betrays her and breaks off the relationship.

Nan is forced to face her past and make a tough choice after someone she used to know reappears in her life. She decides to finally return to Florence after a run of bad luck and heartbreak.
