Uncharted with Sam Neill

Two hundred and fifty years since Captain James Cook set out from Plymouth on his epic journey, Sam Neill visits Tahiti. Here he discovers what Cook means to Tahitians in the present day.

Sam Neill's journey takes him to New Zealand, the country he calls home. Here he contemplates Cook's first interactions with the Maori people and the overall cultural, social and political impact Western settlers had on the land.

After fulfilling his brief as Admiral, Cook decides to travel the long way back to Britain, journeying up the east coast of Australia. Sam follows his lead from Botany Bay to Cooktown, learning more about the country Cook named `nobody's land'.

Sam visits New Zealand, Tonga, Vanuatu and Norfolk Island as he rediscovers Cook's second voyage, this time aboard the Resolution.

Rather than settle for an easy life of retirement, Cook opts for a third voyage around the Pacific; Sam Neill continues to follow Cook's path, this time on from New Zealand and Tonga to Canada and Alaska.

Before his untimely death, Cook attempted to find the North West passage and in doing so, witnessed first-hand the effects of colonisation. Back in Australia, Sam reflects on the life of the great explorer.
