Victoria Kopwelska survived the Nazi death camps but while incarcerated, she befriended a fellow prisoner with family in America who promised the pair will go there when freed. On the eve of Liberation, she dies, allowing Victoria to adopt her identity and travel to America. Once there, she finds she is godmother to the heir to a fortune but her arrival has disrupted the murderous plans of the boy's guardian.
