For many, the European Union is a disembodied monster that acts in the interests of Eurocrats, not citizens. But without it, working or studying in another European country would be a lot more complicated than it is now. Even going on holiday would be harder. EU funds have paid for projects, buildings and infrastructures that make daily life better across the continent, and EU regulations make even a trip to the supermarket easier. So is the EU useful or useless? Let's take stock.
