A Year in Burgundy
Available on iTunes
Burgundy, in France, is the original home of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. Ancient Romans, medieval monks and modern winemakers have spent 2000 years perfecting their art. In four chapters – Spring, Summer, Harvest and Winter – we follow the fortunes of six winemaking families. This is a deeply human story, with scenes of laughter, fear, surprise and delight. We face the rigors of bad weather with all the growers: devastating hail, vine-killing frost. We get to know superstars like Lalou Bise-Leroy, who creates some of the most expensive wine on earth. We live through the harvest with the Morey-Coffinets, whose wine-maker is an accomplished composer and looks after his grape-harvesters as if they were family. We celebrate the vintages of the past at a vast banquet, held by the elite Chevaliers du Tastevin. Finally, we discover some of the secrets of the cellar: how and why Burgundy is one of the world's most-renowned wines.
