Frankie Drake Mysteries
Counterpunch
S3 E2:
While tracking down a missing man, Frankie and the gang discover an underground boxing gym, where she comes face-to-face with former lover, boxer Moses Page. Suspicion is aroused when their search of the gym, the last place the missing man was seen, turns up a pile of empty bottles of a "wonder elixir" hawked by who Frankie assumes is a charlatan. While the brash showman, Harland Walcott, slinging this product claims it's healthy, Frankie and company think it's to blame for the erratic behaviour the missing man displayed before disappearing. With assistance from Walcott himself, Flo uses her chemical wiles to deduce if there's science behind the mysterious beverage selling like hotcakes and stealing business from local pharmacies, or if it's snake oil--- though she gets distracted by chemistry of a different kind, working so closely with someone who's as enthused by the scientific process as she is. When the test results reveal the elixir in its original formula is safe, it's clear someone is adding cocaine to Walcott's product, sending customers into hyperactive spirals. But why? And who would want to take down this honest, if a little showy, chemist? When Frankie and Trudy discover that Walcott is being harassed and extorted by a corrupt cop, they shift gears, devising a plan to take down the real criminal preying on innocent Toronto citizens. Hoping to exploit this nefarious cop's penchant for gambling, Frankie enlists Mose's help with a scheme that requires her to get into the ring, boxing in a match she's guaranteed to win… just as long as she can control who her opponent is. It's all hands on deck for fight night as the Drake Detective Agency aims to deliver a total knockout to a corrupt cop.
