NHL Games of the Year
Flyers vs. Maple Leafs,3/11/08
S1 E23:
The Toronto Maple Leafs pulled off a stunning comeback with three goals in the third period to send the game into overtime against the Philadelphia Flyers, in a game that showed why you should never leave the rink before the final whistle. The Flyers played an intense and steady game, scoring a goal 13 and a half minutes into the first period, when Scottie Upshall tipped a hard pass from Vinny Prospal in behind Toronto's Vesa Toskala. The second period was much the same, with the Flyers converting on a power-play shot from the point. Things looked grim for the Maple Leafs, as Daniel Briere tacked on the third tally for the Flyers just 1:12 into the third period. The Maple Leafs simply refused to give up, and stormed back into the game with a power-play goal from their captain Mats Sundin just three and a half minutes later. Pavel Kubina brought the Maple Leafs to within one less than ten minutes later, and then in a surprising move with the amount of time remaining, Paul Maurice pulled Toskala with the Leafs on the power play. The Flyers couldn't hit the empty net at the other end, and the Leafs tied the game with less than four minutes remaining in the third period. Kubina struck again in the overtime with less than a minute left, capping off the amazing 4-3 comeback for the Leafs.
