NHL Games of the Year
Round 3, Game 2: Stars vs. Red Wings
S1 E39:
The Detroit Red Wings and the Dallas Stars played a tough and gritty contest in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. The Stars showed up to play, looking to get Marty Turco his first win in Joe Louis Arena since his collegiate days, and shaking off the last of the cobwebs from their incredible 4 overtime win against San Jose. However, the Red Wings narrowed their sights on the Stanley Cup, and prevented the Stars from gaining any traction. The Wings were looking to erase the pain they felt last year, being eliminated in the Conference Finals by the eventual cup champion Anaheim Ducks. In this game, all the offense occurred in the first period, with the Wings scoring first, and last. Darren Helm got Detroit rolling with a wrist shot that beat a surprised Turco on the glove side. The Stars converted on a power play opportunity five minutes later, with Stephane Robidas blasting a slap shot past a leaping Osgood to tie the game. Five minutes after that, the Wings gave it right back to the Stars, scoring a power-play goal of their own from Henrik Zetterberg. Though the score remained the same for the rest of the game, both goaltenders made spectacular saves, and the dramatic finish set the stage for what promises to be a phenomenal game 3 in Dallas.
