S3 E5: In a shocking turn of events, Frankie discovers the body of her best friend and fellow detective, Trudy Clarke! But surely, this can't be true, can it? As the police launch an inquiry into this apparent death, Frankie does some digging of her own. Her hunch is that Trudy's death is related to a case that landed on her desk four days prior, an investigation into the murder of Edgar Bishop, husband to Verna, who hired Frankie. Days ago, Trudy and Frankie's interview with Verna's maid revealed the woman of the house's recent interest in "spiritualism", which led her to frequently hire a man named "Kardec" for his claimed ability to speak to the dead. When questioned, Verna is adamant her employment of this medium is borne out of a desire to speak with her deceased siblings, and was Edgar's idea to begin with, but Frankie senses something off. Despite Verna's insistence that Kardec has been a help to her family, Frankie tracks down the single-named medium. She grills Kardec on the truth behind his wild claims and decides to test him, and his "talking table" (an early iteration of a Ouija board) by agreeing to a reading. When Frankie's "reading" comes up empty, it's Trudy's turn in the spiritual seat. In a chilling turn of events, Kardec's board points to danger in Trudy's future. Did he predict her death? Or is he a charlatan more focused on touching the wallets of the living than he is connecting them with their deceased relatives? The Drake Detective Agency is thrown for a loop when a new suspect, seemingly happy to confess to murdering Edgar turns up. But this suspect's connection to Kardec only increases Frankie's suspicions. Nothing is what it seems as the investigation into Trudy's death and Kardec collides.
