Fanchon the Cricket
Available on Prime Video, Tubi TV
‘Fanchon the Cricket’, based on "an adult fairytale" by George Sand, features Mary Pickford as the consummate waif, a social outcast who will unite a divided community. With exquisite cinematography by Edward Wynard and filmed on location in Delaware Gap, Pennsylvania, ‘Fanchon the Cricket’ reveals a natural, sensual and uninhibited actress who breaks through today's stereotype of Pickford as "the girl with the curls." It is also the only surviving film in which both Jack and Lottie Pickford appear with their sister. The restoration of ‘Fanchon the Cricket’, once believed to be a lost film, is the result of a unique international collaboration between the Mary Pickford Foundation, the Cinémathèque Française and the British Film Institute. L'Immagine Ritrovata Laboratory in Italy photo-chemically and digitally restored the film, using the highest quality elements from all three archives. A new negative and 35mm prints were created from the restored digital version, and the Mary Pickford Foundation commissioned a new, original score by Julian Ducatenzeiler and Andy Gladbach.
