Flesh and the Devil
Greta Garbo lights up the screen in the role that made her a star--as a woman whose stunning beauty leads men to their doom in the silent classic Flesh and the Devil. Austrian military officer Leo von Sellentin (John Gilbert--Love, Queen Christina) catches but a momentary glimpse of Felicitas (Garbo--Anna Christie, Queen Christina) standing in a railway depot, but the vision--seared into his mind--changes his life forever. When Leo meets Felicitas a few years later, he can't help but fall in love, unaware that she is already married. And when Leo kills Felicitas' compromised husband in a duel, the officer accepts a post in Africa rather than reveal the reason for the duel and destroy the ladies' honor. Leo asks his lifelong friend, Ulrich (Lars Hanson), to watch over the young widow--a request that traps Ulrich in Felicitas' web of desire and creates a love triangle that can only end in death in one of the most famous film climaxes ever shot.
