Hopalong Cassidy: Riders of the Timberline
This Cassidy series feature does the Sierra Club proud. It pits Jim Kerrigan (J. Farrell McDonald), an ecology minded Lumberman who reverently replants a tree for each he cuts down, against despoiler capitalist Preston Yates (Edward Keane) who is out to make sure Kerrigan forfeits his property by making sure he can't deliver the 20,000,000 feet of lumber necessary to meet the obligations due on his mortgage. It is vintage Cassidy, as Kerrigan calls on his old friend, Buck Peters, who sends Hoppy and his Bar 20 boys to the rescue. Just when it seems impossible to assemble a logging crew to counter Yates' goons, Kerrigan's daugher (Eleanor Stewart) arrives with "The Fighting Forty" lumber team and a battle ensues with the Yates' gang battling Hoppy's men and the new lumbering team. As Hoppy gains the upper hand, Yates resorts to even more underhanded tactics to sabotage the lumbermen's every move. Just when Yates' men win another round, Hoppy devises a plan to infiltrate the gang's camp and uncovers the plot to sabotage the lumber transfer by dynamiting the dam. With some quick thinking and perfect execution, Hoppy makes it to the dam and removes the dynamite, destroying Yate's men instead of the dam, and saves the log transport so Kerrigan can meet his delivery obligations.
