Infernal Affairs III
Ten months after the murder of Yan, Ming is relegated to the backseat of mundane office work, pending internal investigation. His wife, Mary, has separated from him, taking with her their one-year-old daughter. Exhausted mentally and physically, Ming is running on empty, but he is convinced that he can reverse his fortune in no time. Meanwhile, a new star has emerged in the police force. Hardly forty years old, Yeung has already risen to the top echelon thanks to his illustrious track record. His meteoric rise mirrors Ming’s very own before Yan’s death. As the two of them become friends, Ming discovers that behind Yeung’s suave façade hides a darker side. When he witnesses one of Sam’s moles committing suicide in front of Yeung, he suspects that, like himself, Yeung could be a snitch from the triads. Ming begins his clandestine investigation on Yeung, only to find himself constantly shadowed by a mysterious cripple called Shen. From his informer, he learns to his consternation that not only is Shen a former business partner of Sam’s, but he is inextricably linked to Yeung in many ways. Determined to turn a new leaf, Ming puts his life in great danger in order to garner evidence that will nail Yeung for good, while keeping his own identity from being exposed. However, his efforts invariably fail each time he is on the verge of unraveling the truth. Only too late does he realize that he has already been cornered to a dead end by Yeung and Shen… Never really trusted despite working under Sam’s wing for two years, Yan finally succeeds in gaining Sam’s confidence. His first big mission is to liaise with Shen, a mysterious businessman from China. When ordered by Sam to deal a final blow to Shen, Yan knows his opportunity has finally arrived. In order to gain Sam’s ultimate confidence, he decides to betray SP Wong and subject himself to Yeung’s hounding and Shen’s persecution…
