In Montreal, at the beginning of the last century, a poor and uneducated mother manages to get her family out of its misery by becoming a folk singer of thundering success. In the wake of the economic crisis of the 20-30s and the first glimpses of the fight for woman's rights, the movie follows the life of Mary Travers Bolduc, her roaring career, difficult marriage and the touching relationship she had with her eldest daughter, Denise, who played the piano on her mother's albums and dreamed of becoming a Hollywood actress.
