The Mills of Power 1
At the turn of the 20th century, thousands of immigrants from Quebec travel to the Eastern United States to work for French industrialists in this historical drama. While the Federal Government in Ottawa is subsidizing Germans, Poles and Ukranians to come and settle in the Canadian prairies, starving Quebec farmers and workers flee to the USA in the hope of a better future. The French indusrialists who greet these catholic and diligent workers with open arms will also reward them with meagre salaries and little respect for their mother tongue. Thus begins a dramatic fight against assimilation in the US melting pot.
