Stage Door

In a ribald theatrical boardinghouse, ambitious stage-struck girls, Southern belles, hard-edged working-class dames, and pampered debutantes struggle to make their mark on the New York stage in Gregory La Cava's showbiz drama based on the Edna Ferber/George S. Kaufman play. Katharine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Adolphe Menjou, Eve Arden, Lucille Ball, and a very young Ann Miller star. Terry Randall (Hepburn) comes from a wealthy, socially connected family but wants to see if she can make it on her own. Terry's sassy roommate Jean (Ginger Rogers) might get the opportunity to do that when she meets a lecherous producer, but at what cost? The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress (Andrea Leeds), and Best Writing, Screenplay.
