Arlo White

British sportscaster Arlo White made his name as a reporter on BBC Radio 5 Live before finding fame on the other side of the Atlantic as the play-by-play announcer of NBC Sports' soccer coverage. Named after the folk singer Arlo Guthrie, White was born in Leicester, England, and dreamed of being a commentator from an early age. A life-changing two-week break in Chicago with his great aunt inspired him to major in American Studies at the University of Derby, and after receiving his FA coaching badge, he returned to the States to train Major League camps in Massachusetts. In 1996, White landed his first broadcasting gig covering non-league soccer side Alfreton Town for Radio Derby, and after gaining further experience during a brief stint in Australia, joined the BBC Radio 5 Live team in 2001. During his nine-year stint on the station, White served as the breakfast show's sports reporter, appeared alongside legendary commentator John Motson on "The Monday Night Club" and called everything from the 2004 Olympics in Athens to the 2008 Super Bowl. In 2010, White once again headed across the pond to become the voice of MLS side Seattle Sounders FC, also hosting their pre-game TV show and a weekly program on Seattle's KJR-FM. Two years later, White joined NBC Sports as a play-by-play announcer where he covered the MLS, US national team games and the women's gold-medal winning side at the 2012 London Olympics. After the network gained the rights to show Premier League games in 2013, White then relocated back to his homeland to call matches on-site, and also worked as a substitute host on the likes of "Match of the Day" (NBC Sports, 2013-) and "Premier League Live" (NBC Sports, 2013-).
