Scott Hoying

Born in Arlington, Texas, Pentatonix co-founder Scott Hoying always had an interest in music. Joining the high school musical, he met and became friends with Mitch Grassi and Kirstin Maldonado. The three began arranging and performing a cappella covers of popular songs. When they learned of the competition show "The Sing-Off" (NBC, 2009-14), they recruited two more members and chose the name Pentatonix. The quintet handily won the third season and earned a record label. Pentatonix went on to enormous success with a dozen studio albums, world tours, and a YouTube account with millions of views and subscribers. Starting in 2013 Hoying and Grassi started posting their own YouTube videos on the side, calling their duo Superfruit. While the channel was started just for fun with skits, vlogs and duets, they amassed a huge following and released their debut studio album "Future Friends" in 2017. In addition to Pentatonix and Superfruit, Scott Hoying also had a successful solo career. He released his fourth solo studio album, "Parallel", on July 28, 2023.
