Luk Shui-Fung and his wife Law Kwai-Sze and Yuen Tin-Yau return to town from abroad; after settling down, Shui-Fung returns to Ping On Valley.

The retired butler, Old Chow, says goodbye to Ming-Fung; the butler accidentally breaks the family antiques, and Ming-Fung asks him for his salary to compensate.

When Ko-Hing reports Shui-Fung and his wife's whereabouts to Ming-Fung, Ming-Fung's uncle, Pak-Yu, arrives to borrow money from her again, but she declines.

KWAI-SZE prepares western breakfast deliberately and SHUI-FUNG invites KAM-KUK to try but KAM-KUK refuses to recognize KWAI-SZE as his daughter-in-law. KO-HING discovers SIU-SUEN's handkerchief at the door with a note informing them that SIU-SUEN was kidnapped and a hundred silver dollars of ransom money is requested. MING-FUNG complains that KWAI-SZE has taught SIU-SUEN cycling. KAM-KUK thinks that it is difficult to raise a hundred silver dollars. When MING-FUNG has raised a hundred silver dollars, the kidnappers suddenly decide to increase the amount to two hundred silver dollars. MING-FUNG tries to seek help from SIN-CHI but SIN-CHI rejects her. She then begs MAN-YEE to speak for her in front of KAM-KUK but MAN-YEE seizes the chance to scold her. SHUI-FUNG persuades KAM-KUK to offer help but KAM-KUK says that the family is penniless and he wishes that SHUI-FUNG could find the gold mine soon. KWAI-SZE brings a fund-raising box and banner to the ancestral hall to raise money from the villagers. A group of male villagers try to tease her. MING-FUNG finally arrives to beg everybody...

Kam-Cho performs acupuncture on Siu-Suen after she's rescued; Kwai-Sze suggests sending her to the western doctor, but it doesn't help; Tung-Yeung suspects that Siu-Suen's brain is injured; Pak-Hang's husband, Cheung-Sau, suddenly dies and his grand-uncle suggests burying Pak-Hang alive with him; Kam-Cho agrees, but Shui-Fung objects; Pak-Hang prays for protection at Mountain God Temple; in the evening, Shui-Hung and a few villagers discover the ghost bride in wedding gown.
