Two Greedy Italians

Antonio Carluccio and Gennaro Contaldo return to Italy, where they continue their culinary journey. They begin in the southern region of Calabria, where they reminisce about their favourite childhood meals. Antonio reveals the secret of his hot packed-lunches while Gennaro shares his memories of the ritual pig kill. Featuring recipes for orzotto - a pork and pearl barley risotto - fish stew, and rice cake flavoured with orange.

Gennaro and Antonio travel to the mountainous coastal region of Liguria to see if La Bella Figura (making the best of yourself) is still as important as when they left Italy. They find that Portofino has become more about money and superficiality than actual substance, while in the mountains of Liguria, they find people who know how to enjoy life and really live La Bella Figura. Here they learn the art of cooking with fresh, simple ingredients, such as Cucina Bianca, or white cooking, Antonio and Gennaro share their recipes for Triglie alla Genovese, Tortino di Potate e Cavoli and Mandilli di Seta.

Antonio and Gennaro travel to Lombardy to practice Arrangiarsi (the art of getting by), and see if they can get by on their wits alone. They scavenge for mushrooms and herbs, camp in the mountains and hunt pheasant. In the Alps Anotino and Gennaro cook with ingredients they find in nature and prepare from scratch and meet people who live off the land. Antonio and Gennaro show their recipes for Insalata della Valtellina, Pizzoccherri and Torta Salata delle Alpi.

Gennaro and Antonio travel to Lazio to find out what it means to be a man in modern Italy. They begin in the mountain villages, where men provide for their families and gender roles have remained much the same. However, in Rome, men are increasingly taking on more traditional female duties, such as cleaning and cooking. They find that even the food of Rome has been modernized and in their opinion, become less macho. Along the way, Antonio and Gennaro demonstrate their recipes for Bucatini al'Amatriciana, Frittata di Pepperoni, and Brasato di Manzo en Vino Rosso.
