While looking for work and gathering information about her birth parents in Detroit, Mari McCabe winds up in jail; her foster father, Chuck, bails her out, upset that she chose not to contact him.

Mari recollects receiving her totem necklace from her foster mother; she approaches professor Macalester, hoping that he can give her more information about the necklace.

Mari demonstrates her totem's animal powers to Chuck, who has a hard time believing what he sees; Mari lifts a table and walks up a wall, but stops short of jumping off a building in an attempt to fly like a bird.

Arrow and Flash pursue Mari through Detroit; although Mari believes they want to lock her up like a criminal, the super heroes insist they only want to talk to her.

With the totem necklace bonded to Mari, Kuasa kidnaps her and takes her to their old African village, where she reveals her connection to Mari and the totem; Kuasa uses a deadly tactic to sever the bond between Mari and the necklace.

Mari encounters the animal spirits within her totem and gains the support she needs to take back the totem from Kuasa in a showdown at her old African village.
