Shel Silverstein

Shel Silverstein brought his musical talents to a variety of films over the course of his Hollywood career. Silverstein began his entertainment career with his music featured in films like "Ned Kelly" (1970) with Mick Jagger, "Payday" (1972) and "Thieves" (1977) with Marlo Thomas. His music also appeared in the dramatic biopic "Coal Miner's Daughter" (1980) with Sissy Spacek. Though known first for his music, Silverstein also acted in "Who Is Harry Kellerman, and Why Is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me?" (1971). In the eighties and the nineties, Silverstein's music continued to appear on the silver screen, including in films like the comedy "Montenegro" (1981) with Susan Anspach. Silverstein was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for "Postcards From the Edge" in 1990. He followed this honor with songs in the Geena Davis adventurous drama "Thelma & Louise" (1991). Silverstein's music was also featured in the comedic adaptation "Divorcing Jack" (1998) with David Thewlis and the Billy Crudup dramedy "Almost Famous" (2000). Silverstein's music was most recently featured in the comedy sequel "Are We Done Yet?" (2007) with Ice Cube. Silverstein passed away in May 1999.
