Caitlin Moran

Caitlin Moran was a British author and screenwriter who was best known for writing the TV series "Raised by Wolves" (Channel 4, 2013-16) and the film "How to Build a Girl" (2019), both of which were autobiographical. Born in Brighton and raised in Wolverhampton, Moran was the eldest of eight children. She described her parents as "hippies," and claimed that her father, a former drummer, was a pioneer in the genre of psychedelic rock. Moran had a happy childhood, but longed to do bigger and better things separate from her tightknit family. Ever since she was a teenager, Moran knew she wanted to be a writer. So as soon as she was old enough to pick up a pen, Moran began writing. She won an essay contest at the age of 13, proving she was well on her way to a career as an author. Moran moved out of her parents' home when she was 18, and quickly landed a TV hosting gig for a music show called "Naked City" (Channel 4, 1992-94). On the series, which lasted for two seasons, Moran interviewed some of the biggest up-and-coming British bands, including Blur. After "Naked City" ended, Moran turned her focus towards writing. In 2011 she wrote the memoir How to Be a Woman, which documented her journey from her teens to her thirties as a feminist. The book was widely successful, and several more books followed, including 2014's How to Build a Girl. In addition to book writing, Moran also created the autobiographical comedy series "Raised by Wolves," which was based on her life growing up in Wolverhampton. With her book-writing career on the rise, Moran ventured into screenwriting in 2019 with the release of "How to Build a Girl." The film, which was adapted from Moran's novel of the same name, starred Emma Thompson and Chris O'Dowd. Moran co-wrote the screenplay for the film with John Niven.
