The Family Division
S1, E4: First up is Samantha, who's grilled on her judgement. Derek, Nicci's lawyer, brings up the perforated artery. Andrew's horrified Nicci divulged this. Derek then produces an email where Samantha dismisses her disabled patients. As she crumbles, Nicci's triumph dissipates. Andrew's next. Derek highlights his drinking, calling into doubt his dedication as a father. Andrew owns up to his mistakes, insisting his stance comes only from love for Marnie. Nicci finally speaks to David, the doctor her legal team have been promising. Meanwhile, Tom tells Andrew he's a good father. Unable to sleep, Nicci visits Marnie, remembering Andrew's support when she was first diagnosed. However, in court, David is underwhelming; the hospital's lawyers quickly demonstrate his biases. Katie tells Nicci they should let go: Marnie wouldn't want all this. On the stand, Nicci is passionate but Katie's words have impacted her. The verdict arrives: Marnie's care will end. The family absorb this. Nicci visits Andrew, apologising for passing information to the legal team. She insists he's an excellent dad; enough is enough, she's calling a stop to it all. They decide, Katie included, that Marnie would have wanted to be a donor. After they say goodbye, Nicci tells Andrew to join them. She doesn't know where they're going, but they're going together. These two are good together. Katie joins them; there may be hope yet. We end on the younger family picnicking together, looking out at the view.
