Archimedes
Archimedes, the narrator of the documentary, recounts his story and the one of his hometown, the Greek city-state of Syracuse in Sicily, following the astonishing and, at times, mysterious events that led his Palimpsest to survive throughout the centuries. According to scholars, the codex was assembled in Constantinople in the 10th century from an older parchment book. Hidden in it were three major treatises of the genius: “The Method of Mechanical Theorems”, “The Stomachion” and “On Floating Bodies”. In 1998, this precious book was sold at auction, at Christie’s in New York, for an astounding sum of over two million dollars. Antonino Zichichi, Nigel Wilson, William Noel, and Abigail Quandt are among the many prestigious interviewees that help us retrace the steps of the Palimpsest’s travels through the ages, and highlight the relevance of Archimedes and his revolutionary mathematical thinking in our modern day society.
