Mammoth

Gael García Bernal (Amores Perros; Babel) and Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain; Shutter Island) star as Leo and Ellen, a successful affluent New York couple who on the surface appear to have it all, a beautiful, bright daughter; great apartment; fulfilling careers and are still deeply in love. But behind this façade something more troubling is happening, Ellen is a devoted emergency surgeon but is beginning to question her priorities when her daughter chooses to spend more time with her Filipino nanny, Gloria. In turn Gloria is desperate to be reunited with her two sons back in the Phillipines. It will take a business trip to Thailand to make all the characters look at their own lives and their place in a global landscape. Lukas Moodysson deftly weaves small intimate moments shared between couples and families alongside posing bigger questions about global wealth and greed to build up a portrait of contemporary society. One of the worlds most visionary directors Moodysson is best known for his films, Together and Lilya-4-Ever. Mammoth is his first English language feature.
