Plan 75
Chie Hayakawa's thought-provoking drama, set in the near future, imagines a world where a country with a low birth rate and dwindling workforce takes drastic steps to alleviate the burden of its ageing population. By introducing new legislation called Plan 75, the Japanese government offers the elderly a painless death and modest compensation to spend as they wish in their remaining days. The film holds a mirror to our world, questioning what happens to society when we start valuing cold economic calculations over the richness of the human experience.
