Shadowlands
Anthony Hopkins excels in Richard Attenborough's touching romantic drama as Narnia writer CS Lewis, the starchy Oxford don who had his cobwebs blown away by no-nonsense American Joy Gresham (the Oscar-nominated Debra Winger). William Nicholson adapts his own stage play to emotionally arresting effect, thanks to the sterling performances and the veteran director's admirable restraint.
