Jimi Mistry

A British actor with Indian and Irish roots, Jimi Mistry has appeared in a wide variety of television and film productions. After attending drama school, Mistry was featured in a bit part in Kenneth Branagh's 1996 movie adaptation of William Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and had his big break a few years later as Dr. Fred Fonseca on the long-running English soap opera "EastEnders." Mistry's profile was further raised with his key role as Tariq Khan in the 1970s-set culture-clash feature comedy "East Is East," where he portrayed the restless son of a Pakistani immigrant, and he continued his film streak with a part in "The Mystic Masseur" and the lead in another comedy, "The Guru," also starring American actresses Heather Graham and Marisa Tomei. Following supporting roles in the fantasy movie "Ella Enchanted" and the thriller "Blood Diamond," Mistry appeared in Guy Ritchie's raucous crime film "RocknRolla," steadily working in both British and Hollywood productions. He turned up briefly in the end-of-the-world blockbuster "2012," featuring John Cusack and Amanda Peet, and reprised his "East Is East" character, Tariq, in the sequel "West Is West" before taking on a featured role in the hit action series "Strike Back," yet another notable part for the busy performer.
