Joe Ely

Joe Ely worked on a variety of projects during his entertainment career. Joe Ely's acting career began with roles in the series "Austin City Limits" (PBS, 1974-2015) and "The Texas Connection" (The Nashville Network, 1989-1993). He appeared in a number of television specials, including "Buddy Holly and the Crickets -- A Tribute" (PBS, 1987-88) and "Showtime Coast to Coast: American Music" (Showtime, 1989-1990). Joe Ely also contributed music to "Roadie" (1980) and the comedy "Der Stand der Dinge" (1982) with Patrick Bauchau. He also worked in television during these years, including a part on "The Road" (The Nashville Network, 1994-96). He also contributed to a variety of television specials, including "Joe Ely and Band" (1990-91), "The Best of American Music Shop" (The Nashville Network, 1990-91) and "Country Music Hall of Fame 25" (CBS, 1991-92). Joe Ely also created music for the Ellen Barkin comedy "Switch" (1991). Joe Ely focused on film in more recent years, appearing in the Dwight Yoakam crime feature "South of Heaven, West of Hell" (2000), "Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten" (2007) and "Garrison Keillor: The Man on the Radio in the Red Shoes" (2008). Joe Ely also contributed music to "Tin Cup" (1996) with Kevin Costner and the Sandra Bullock dramedy "Hope Floats" (1998). Joe Ely most recently worked on "Austin City Limits Celebrates 40 Years" (PBS, 2014-15).
