Offset

Offset (born Kiari Kendrell Cephus) came on the scene as a member of the hit making hip-hop trio Migos. All three members of the group were raised together in Lawrenceville, Georgia; leader Quavo (Quavious Keyate Marshall) was nephew to Takeoff (Kirshnik Khari Ball) and cousin to Offset. The three began working together in 2011 and released the first of a dozen mixtapes; it was the third tape, 2013's Y.R.N. that brought their breakthrough track, "Versace." Packed with fast rhymes and pop-cultural references, the song fell into the trap style, an outgrowth of Dirty South hip-hop with EDM touches and underworld-themed lyrics. The followup single "Hannah Montana" dropped even more references; the lyric rhymes Shady with Patrick Swayze and turns the name of Miley Cyrus' character into a euphemism for cocaine. A third single "Fright Night" continued the group's ascent; they signed a major-label deal and hip the Top 20 with their first studio album, Young Rich Nation in 2015. Offset became the star of the trio's biggest hit, "Bad and Boujee," from the 2016 follow-up Culture. Offset's legal problems began before the group's ascent. He had a prior conviction for burglary and theft, which came back to haunt him after the singles took off. He was arrested in 2013 for violating probation, then all three members were arrested after a live show at Georgia State University. While the other two members were able to post bond, Offset was charged with possession of marijuana and a firearm in a school safety zone. When the other two members were interviewed by Rolling Stone in June 2015, Offset was doing time. During his incarceration he was charged with battery and inciting a riot, during an altercation with another prisoner. He served eight months and was released in December 2015. He was arrested once again in March 2016 for driving with a suspended license but was only detained overnight. Later that year Offset made his acting debut in "Atlanta", the FX TV series created by Danny Glover and dealing with the city's rap scene; in 2017 he guested on Metro Boomin's single "No Complaints" and Macklemore's album track "Willy Wonka." In late 2017 Migos began teasing the release of their third album Culture 2, which included high-profile guests such as Cardi B and Nicki Minaj; the album was released in January 2018, spawning the hits "Stir Fry, "MotorSport" and "Walk It Talk It." In June 2018, it was revealed that Offset and Cardi B, who had announced their engagement in October 2017, had actually gotten married on September 20, 2017.
