Young waitress Sookie (Anna Paquin) comes to the rescue of mysterious vampire Bill (Stephen Moyer).

Mack and Denise Rattray attempt to get their revenge on Sookie, but Bill steps in to save her. As her senses begin to undergo a transformation, Sookie later learns that the Rattrays are dead, and the police immediately suspect Bill. Sookie also begins to wonder just how far vampires will go when a leading opponent of the Vampire Rights Act is killed in an accident.

Sookie becomes the focal point of a heated dispute between Bill and his vampire associates.

Jason is again the number one suspect, after the town's second murder in a week, but Tara provides him with an alibi. Knowing that both of the victims had frequented the Fangtasia vampire club, Sookie asks Bill to take her there to find evidence that will clear her brother.

Bill proves to be a popular attraction for Adele's historical society, while Sam asks Sookie out on a date and Jason decides to give 'V' another try.

Sookie must deal with her emotions after her grandmother becomes the latest victim of the serial killer. She can't block out the thoughts of others, and she knows many of the townspeople believe her association with vampires was to blame for her grandmother's death. Despite Sam Merlotte's and Bill's pleading, Sookie insists on staying in the house. She does, however, decide to spend the night with Bill.
