Aiko has almost learned to walk again, two years after her family were killed by the Burst, and finds her life turned upside down by the arrival of a transfer student.

Kanzaki takes Aiko to the Town, where her father's old colleague Kurose tells her the unbelievable: her brain was transplanted into an artificial body.

Aiko and Yuya find themselves detained by the CAAC, until the Divers break them out. In spite of the Matter being active again, the group make plans to journey to Primary Point.

The government orders an evacuation as the group clear the Gate. They set their sights on the Guillotine Shutter at K1, but must contend with the Matter being active.

Having made it inside the Area, the group take some time to rest and replenish their supplies. Kurose gives Nanbara a ride, but it appears that Isazu and Nanbara have plans of their own.

The group find their progress to point K2, with sunrise their deadline, delayed by Kaede's showing off. Isazu comes clean with Kurose.
