It's Christmas Day and the men head off to a football match whilst the women prepare their Christmas lunches. This year, it's Minnie's turn to cook Christmas dinner for the others.

Albert rallies the menfolk for the tug-of-war between the Rovers and The Flying Horse, having got two banned rugby league players for the team. Elsie and Steve arrive for a final Christmas. Elsie is pensive at the thought of moving to the USA.

The residents of the street put on a 1940s show in the Rovers. Meanwhile, Elsie faces up to the realisation that Alan is on the verge of becoming an alcoholic, and Minnie has a curious encounter with a mysterious woman.

The street plans a surprise party for Hilda Ogden before she leaves for Derbyshire.

Tracy detects the tension as Deirdre struggles to be civil to an adulterous Ken. Meanwhile, Gail and Martin play host to Audrey, Alf, Don and Ivy on Christmas Day. Also, Jack swears off alcohol following his Santa hallucination.

Alec sleeps in the Rovers' sitting room waiting for the Duckworths to emerge. He accuses them of trespassing and orders them out of the pub but they refuse to leave. In hospital, Judy has an epidural and is helped along by Gary.
